A Run for Canines and their Human Companions
Saturday October 11, 2008 

10AM-Main Event (Limited to 150 Entries): 3 miles on roads and park trails. (3/10 mile on rugged horse trails with possible hazards such as roots, ruts, and mud.)  
9:30AM-Paws from the Past  (Limit 12): dash for Hounds and Harriers alumni dogs, see rules for eligibility.  

Where: South Street Recreation Area of Loantaka Park in Morris Township

Why: To benefit St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center

Fee: Preregistration:  $25 pre-entry postmarked by 9/19/07. Post registration: $28  Race Day: $30.  Checks payable to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center. 

Prizes: Will be awarded in the 3 mile run for male/female human categories, special prizes for small and large dog winners, first shelter/rescue dog and first veteran dog.  All entrants in the Paws from the Past receive a ribbon.       

Limited Entry: Please remember entrants will be limited.  Apply early to insure your acceptance.  The race usually fills 2-3 weeks in advance of race date.    

 Custom T-shirts, dog bandannas and goodies bags to all 150 human/canine teams.  Refreshments, water stops and mile markers provided.

T-Shirts/Sweat Shirts: Extra t-shirts, sweat shirts and bandanas can be ordered in any size (including children's sizes) before September 19 when the shirt order is placed. Payment must be made at time of order. Bandanas $5. Short sleeved tees $10, Long sleeved tees $15; sweat shirts are $20.

Rules
* One dog per person. Exceptions may be considered on an individual basis.
* Dogs must be on leashes at all times (no longer than 6'). No flexi leashes please.
* Rabies vaccinations and dog licenses must be current on race day.  We require you send a copy of the rabies certificate with your registration form.   If you do not have a copy, ask your vet for one.   It should have the date of the shot and an expiration date on it and normally is good for 3 years.  The race director will notify entrants via email if they have un-expired rabies certificates on file from a previous year.  In those cases, the certificate is not required.   
 * Poop bags will be provided. You are responsible for picking up after your dog if he decides to go in the staging area, on the park trails or in the residential section of the course. Garbage receptacles will be placed at least every 1/2 mile (every 2/10 for the first mile) for you to deposit your used bag. We recommend you exercise your dog before the run to avoid dealing with this during the race.
* Puppies must be at least 6 months old to participate. We will not allow female dogs in any stage of heat to attend.
* The race director and race veterinarian reserve the right to refuse entry or remove a dog from the course if it might prove hazardous to others or whose physical condition appears to be in jeopardy before or during the event.
* The race director reserves the right to change the race to a fun run if the temperature is excessively warm.
* No Baby Joggers.
* To enter the Paws from the Past, the dog has to have participated in a previous Hounds and Harriers Run and can no longer complete 3 miles.  Entry fee is optional for Paws from the Past but required for t-shirt and goodies.  Course is the finishing stretch.
